I’m asked most often about the health benefits of infrared saunas for women, but in honor of Father’s Day I want to sing the praises for MEN and their health with infrared sauna use!
If there is one reoccurring topic I speak to men about with regard to their health … it is STRESS! Men tend to hold in their stress and anxiety more than women, not wanting to show their vulnerabilities, but the burdens they face with work and life are no less encompassing for them as they are with their female counterparts. Living with high levels of stress over prolonged periods of time will result in the body breaking down, manifesting in fatigue and sleepless nights and compromised health and wellness.
According to the American Psychological Association 59% of men think that managing their stress is important but only 30% report that they have successfully managed to control their stress. Likewise, the same study showed that 58% of men think getting enough sleep is important, however only 25% feel that they reach their optimal hours of rest. What does that say? It says that men know what they need to do to help themselves feel well and live fully but the majority don’t prioritize their health to achieve their optimal life.
Enter self-care. This term can make Men tune-out but it is as important to them as it is to women. Managing stress, getting enough hours of sleep, getting exercise and eating well all contribute to living a life that is rich and full. Infrared sauna use is the perfect assistant in achieving wellness. Regular infrared sauna use is known to reduce inflammation in the body and relieve aches and pains from exercise or injury. It also encourages increased blood flow which allows healing to occur more quickly in the tissues and muscles. This increased blood circulation has been shown to help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and lower blood pressure. An increase in metabolic rate can be seen as well, resulting in weight loss.
